Welcome to our combined schoolroom/playroom for preschool and the early years! Let me show you around.
Josiah and Jessa are 4 and 2 this year. Most of our “school” is playing so the schoolroom is essentially a playroom with a few educational displays. It’s fall and we just finished up a unit on letter L so you will see evidence of that in the pictures.
My husband, Josh made the train table. He followed the directions here, but changed the dimensions a bit. We gave it to Josiah for his 2nd birthday and it’s still the most used item in the playroom.
Our Bible memory verse each week is the Bible verse for the letter we are studying on the Songs for Saplings ABC album. This week was L is for Looks and came from 1 Samuel 16:7.
These nature box displays feature our nature finds and protect them from getting destroyed by little hands. They are made from the old Melissa and Doug wooden toy collections that came with a wooden storage tray. The ones now no longer have the sliding plexiglass. (I got mine secondhand.)
The frame holding the skeleton and human anatomy art is magnetic and I change it out depending on what we are studying/what season it is. Obviously the skeleton is up from Halloween! I have several wall hangings from The Paper Source.
The shelf beneath the chalkboard holds the kids’ toys and math manipulatives. I rotate some of them, but most are old favorites that stay out all the time. The books are rotated and we add new art displays. I have put nature on this shelf, but it gets destroyed so it’s best displayed on the wall in our nature boxes.
The white cabinet pictured above contains all of our books that I use for A Joy-Filled Journey Through Preschool, plus the supplies we use on a daily basis.
I made this ruler growth chart from the instructions included in this product found on etsy. Although, I guess you can’t call it a growth chart until it has growth measurements marked on it! I can’t bring myself to write on it yet!
The vintage artwork came from the Biodiversity Heritage Library on Flickr.
When I was teaching, the rules in our classroom were contained in the acronym, REACH: Respect, Effort, Attitude, Cooperation, and Honesty. We would shout “Reach for success!” and recite the acronym with hand motions each day. Those are the same expectations I have in our homeschool, although I haven’t taught this acronym to Josiah yet. I knew I wanted a word to display above this cabinet. Read, grow, and play were close contenders, but they were too short for the space their and I like the dual purpose of the word reach being displayed there.
The clotheslines display artwork from each week, mostly process art. The play kitchen was a yard sale find that we spruced up for Christmas last year. It’s another most used item in our playroom/schoolroom.
If there’s anything that you’d like to know more about, just ask! I’d be happy to share!

I’m in LOVE with this classroom! That train table! WOW! The storage underneath is very cool, your husband did an outstanding job making that. The nature boxes and kitchen are just too sweet. I wanna come play! lol
Cami Warning
Can I come play! Or just send my kids there to homeschool! I LOVE all of it! So well thought out!
