We started up preschool a few weeks ago and we’re on our third letter-of-the-week. Here’s what our “calendar time” board looks like.
As you can see we are focusing on letter H this week.
Our board features:
- Letter of the week word wall:Â I try to include words that we will encounter in our literature selections for the week, an instrument (laying the groundwork music appreciation!), an animal or two, and something found in nature.
- Letter of the week flash cards
- Alphabet Chart
- Flag
- Season/Month WheelÂ
- Weather Chart We change this out daily, but in the future I’ll make a chart that records the weather for the week so we can look at weather patterns or over the week.
- Thermometer
- Our Weekly Calendar This is probably the most important part of the display because Josiah really likes to know what our plans are and when things will be. This display allows him to count down to important events. Last year I had a similar display, but it began with Sunday and ended with Saturday. This made our plans confusing for him (and me too, honestly!). There’s a reason it’s called a weekend! It works much better with a Monday start day.
Watch the video below if you’d like to hear an explanation and description of how we do calendar time!
I made all that you see on the board (except for the flag of course!) and many of the items are available as free downloads in the member resource library. Find them here!
What do you include in your learning displays for your preschooler?
